The Cross

The Cross

Take some time to think of the cross and the sacrifice Jesus made for you through His love. You might want to take a piece of paper and write down the burdens you are placing on the cross today.

As you repent and give your burdens to Jesus, rip up the paper, put it in the bin, receive His forgiveness and walk into the freedom that His death and resurrection offer you today.

"Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
he will never let
    the righteous be shaken."
Psalm 55:22 (NIV)

Cleansed

Take a bowl of water and soap and wash your hands. Thank Jesus that His blood has made you clean. Repent and thank Him for His sacrifice, forgiveness and love.

Communion

Pour yourself a glass of juice or wine and get a slice of bread, read over the story of Jesus breaking bread, drink the cup, eat the bread and remember. Thank Jesus for all He is and all He has done for you.

Matthew 26:26-28
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

This song might help you as you remember the body and blood of Jesus given for you in unfailing love.
I Am Statements

Speak out these Biblical declarations of truth over yourself. You may find that you struggle to speak some of them. Take time to ask Jesus what your hesitations are, what lies you are believing, and how you can step into the truth. Once you've taken it to Jesus and broken the lies, declare the statement again in freedom. This is a great daily practice of stepping into our identity as children of God.

The Seven Pillars

You may want to get some papers of different colours, or use different coloured pens to write out your prayers for each of the pillars.
You get even write your prayers in different coloured arches to make a rainbow pillar by pillar.

Revival

Praying for Wales

Lift up the nation of Wales to God in prayer. If you're struggling to know what to pray for, you may want to use the daily themes or the 7 pillars to help you find focus areas, and as suggested with the 7 pillars, you may want to take some time to research the news across Wales and stand in intercession in the battles you read.

ACTION:
Light a candle to declare that Jesus is the light of the world and the light of Wales. As you strike your match, pray that revival would ignite across the nation, that hearts would turn to Jesus and we would see a wave of salvation in homes.
Commission the City have created this fantastic course exploring 10 revivals across the world and how we can apply lessons from them to our prayers today.
The Lord's Prayer

Jesus knew that sometimes we wouldn't know how or what to pray, so he taught us in this prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. We've provided a resource for children and a resource to learn to pray this beautiful, powerful prayer in Welsh. There's something mighty about praying over a nation in the native language, so we encourage you to engage in a new way here and pray along with the pronunciations in brackets. Declare God's Kingdom come in Wales.

A beautiful paraphrase of The Lord's Prayer for children

The Lord’s Prayer craft

Gather some different coloured beads and some string and pray through the prayer together with your kids. Add a different coloured bead onto you string as you go through to create a bracelet that you can wear to remember how to pray.

Yellow - Dear God,

Prayer starts like a letter with addressing who you are talking to.  You don’t really have to say “Dear God,” you can start it with whatever name for God you prefer.

White - holiness

God is perfect and deserves our praise, the white bead reminds us to praise God.

Blue - sin

Where have you fallen short of God’s standard?  What do you need to tell Him about?

Green - food and shelter

What do you need?  God is a loving Father who wants to give you your requests, but we need to ask Him.

Red - forgiveness

God forgives us for our sins because of Jesus’ shed blood. Likewise, we should forgive those who have sinned against us, is there someone you need to forgive?

Purple - God’s sovereignty

God is in charge and purple is the color of royalty.  Praise God for who He is, and what He has done.  Take a moment to thank Him for your many blessings.

Healing

Bring to mind someone you know who needs healing. Draw a stick person, take a plaster and place it on the part of the body that is not well and pray full healing in Jesus' name.

Even though we can't lay hands on people to pray for their healing, God isn't limited by distance. Acts 19:11-12 says "God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them."
Take a tissue or a piece of material and consider the power of God to be able to heal without a physical moment of prayer. Write the name of the person you are praying for on it and bless them with healing from where you are in your own home. You may even want to post the prayed over material to the post, or send the person a photo, to let them know that you're praying for them.

Restore

Our full Restore program is currently unable to function as usual due to Covid-19, meaning that the people we offer support to are in more need of our prayers than ever. We may be unable to take action in the same ways, but we can intercede and we can consider how each of us can make a safe impact locally.

Creative ways to pray for the people we care for through Restore

Tavs // Serving a hot meal to the homeless and vulnerably housed.
  • Often cardboard is the only protection that homeless people have, but we believe in a God who not only protects, but redefines and restores us.
  • Take a piece of cardboard and consider the every-weather-protection of the Father.
  • Write your prayers for the homeless community on the cardboard and build a simple tower with it to pray and declare that God will be their refuge and strength.

Food for the City // Helping individuals who don’t have enough to eat due to Covid-19.
  • As you prepare your next meal pray for those who are going without.
  • Jesus calls us to be a people who fast and pray. There are many reasons to fast, one being to stand in solidarity with the poor. You may want to consider fasting for a meal, a day, or even a week to stand in solidarity with the poor. Let every moment you feel hungry be a prompt to pray for those in real need.
  • Bridgetown Church have provided some great teaching on fasting
  • Consider how you could give - whether that is joining the team who are providing meals (cooking or delivering), giving financially to this program, or blessing a neighbour.

Growbaby // Providing equipment and clothes and a welcoming community for families and their little ones.
  • As you are doing your laundry or pegging out your washing this week consider the material needs of our Growbaby community.
  • Pray for God's provision where we are unable to provide in this season.
  • Consider items that you could donate or charities that you could give to who are able to provide essential help to families across our city.
Open Door // Establishing Christian community amongst the homeless and marginalised.
  • Make a paper people chain following this simple tutorial and pray for the community among our Open Door program to be strengthened even as we are apart.
  • As our community continue to meet on the streets pray protection and safety over them, and pray for God's provision of shelter, warmth, and nourishment. Pray peace to the streets of Cardiff.
Blend // Building community for asylum seekers and refugees over coffee and cake.
  • Set up a tent in your garden, or build a den of sheets in your lounge. Sit inside and consider the journey of a refugee or asylum seeker. Imagine the pain and fear involved in fleeing your own country to find yourself homeless and without in a foreign land.
  • Pray for our Blend community and all of the refugees and asylum seekers who are coming into Cardiff.
  • Pray for secure housing provided in Cardiff, and for peace to the hearts of those who have journeyed from far and wide hoping for refuge. Our city has been declared a City of Sanctuary, pray that we would live up to that title.
Storehouse // Providing quality furniture and household goods to those who need it, free of charge.
  • The people that we serve through Storehouse often have no furniture due to trauma - fleeing from domestic violence, refugee fleeing from political violence, homeless and have just been given a house.
  • Imagine your worst day ever and then imagine you've just been given a house from the council. You come home and you are so thankful, but then have nothing in your house to be able to function.
  • Place yourself in the shoes of one of these people by trying some simple actions throughout the week:
  • Try eating your dinner without a chair and table.
  • Try and take a nap on the floor.
  • Try and shop imagining that you don't have a fridge.
  • Try and prepare a meal without a cooker.
  • As you try these simple tasks with limitations pray for those who are completely without in their home. Pray for God to meet the practical needs of those without. Pray for hope as people begin to rebuild their lives.
Tŷ Adfer // A house for the homeless.
  • Take a prayer walk around your house. As you enter each new room, bless the corresponding room in our Green Pastures house that is being prepared for housing the homeless.
  • Welcome God into the bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, kitchen, communal spaces, and garden.
  • Ask Him for words and pictures for the rooms and for the people who will move in, and share them on the Prayer Wall.
